CultureShift Book Club: How We View Animals
Our first book club of the new year will cover two short pieces, a book chapter and an article.
- Chapter One of David Alan Nibert’s Animal Rights/Human Rights: Entanglements of Oppression and Liberation. Nibert contends that the mistreatment of devalued humans and other animals is driven largely by “individual material interests and the broader economic systems that condition them.” Read it here.
- From The Humanist Magazine, Jamie Woodhouse and (yours truly) Amy Halpern-Laff that suggest that the values that underlie humanism — evidence, reason, and compassion — logically lead to sentientism. Read it here.
