Laura earned her Master’s degree in Humane Education from the Institute of Humane Education at Antioch University after learning about factory farming and the injustices in our food system. Prior to life as an animal rights advocate, she did her B.A. in Studio Arts at the College of Charleston and spent nearly a decade building and running a successful floral design business in Charleston’s bustling wedding industry. Laura joined New Roots Institute to begin educating her community on animal rights, environmental ethics, and human heath; topics that were not taught when she was in school. She hopes to encourage informed choices from the next wave of consumers. Most days you’ll find her reading on the porch, performing culinary experiments in the kitchen, or swimming in the creek with her ever-growing gang of companion animals.
